Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk Aren’t As Rich As You Think
I just saw a post saying that Jeff Bezos makes $150,000 a second (or something ridiculous like that) and it was used as an argument for Amazon to pay their employees more.
On the surface, this would seem like a logical conclusion. With that logic, surely Jeff could pay the salaries of a few of his workers every single second that he’s alive. So why not give them a few extra bucks per hour?
That’s not how it works.
I’m not sure if they people who come up with these calculations know this or not, but I’m pretty sure anyone who took the time to do the math on how much Jeff makes per second would know how it works, right?
Who knows.
What I DO know, however, is how these net worth things are actually figured out. People think Jeff Bezos just has hundreds of billions of dollars sitting in cash at home or something but obviously this is false.
So what does Jeff actually make, and is it justified for him to pay his employees a few more bucks per hour? Let’s find out.
Well first of all, let’s look at Amazon’s earnings.
Currently, the market capitalization of Amazon is 1.66 trillion! Crazy, right? This just means that the market values Amazon at this level based on the price of Amazon shares.
